Dynamical Behaviour of a Two-phase Chemically Reacting System including Mass Transfer

Mathematical models for a class of two-phase chemical absorption processes with a single irreversible chemical reaction are presented, as well as an analysis of their dynamical behaviour. Here emphasis is put on the interfacial mass transport which especially in the case of fast reactions must be considered carefully. The resulting models consist of systems of reaction-diiusion equations on the microscopic level and systems of convection-reaction-diiusion equations on the macroscopic scale. They are coupled through the interfacial mass transfer which incorporates turbulence. Models of this type are called lm-renewal models in the literature, and lead to mathematical problems of a nonstandard type. We show that these models are wellposed, lead to global semiiows in certain natural phase spaces, and admit unique equilibrium states which are globally asymptotically stable. The case of lm theory is also investigated, and it is shown that lm theory is a limiting case of lm-renewal theory.
